Srinagar, Mar 18 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government said nearly 130 posts of doctors and paramedics remain vacant in the Kreeri and Sheeri medical blocks of Baramulla district.
Responding to a query from MLA Javid Hussain Baig, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said in a written reply that 40 posts are vacant in Kreeri Medical Block, while 93 positions remain unfilled in Sheeri Medical Block.
“A few doctor and paramedic attachments have been made due to administrative requirements and on humanitarian grounds,” she said.
Itoo said that upgrading hospital facilities, including machinery, equipment and allied services, is an ongoing process undertaken annually based on budgetary provisions and the availability of funds.
Regarding infrastructure, she said the process of acquiring land for CHC Chandoosa is ongoing, with the Revenue Department working to identify suitable state land.
The minister added that in the 2021-22 financial year, Rs 8 lakh was allocated for land compensation for NTPHC Laridora under order No. 06/DHSK of 2022, dated 19.03.2022. "However, the amount was not paid to the landowner due to the financial year’s closure, causing the funds to lapse. Despite this, construction of the NTPHC was completed, and it has been operational since September 2024," she said.
Most health centres in Block Sheeri are still functioning from rented buildings, Itoo added—(KNO)
